The Sri Lankan New Year, known as "Aluth Avurudda" (Sinhala: අලුත් අවුරුද්ද) or "Puthandu" (Tamil: புத்தாண்டு), is a vibrant harvest festival celebrated by both Sinhalese and Tamil communities on April 13th and 14th, marking the end of the old year and the beginning of the new one. For Sri Lankans, it's deeply etched in the island's culture, traditions and folklore, and marks the astrological journey of the sun, from the House of Pisces to the House of Aries. Games and Celebrations: People engage in traditional games, sing and dance to the beat of the rabana (a traditional drum), and dress in colorful costumes. So find out what's happening in your neighbourhood and get involved!
