Just off the beach, tucked into the buzzy heart of Arugam Bay, is Emily’s – a casual dinner spot serving colourful, nourishing food with heart. The kind of place you stumble into barefoot and leave planning your return.

The vibe is unfussy. The food is anything but.

On the menu the highlights are grilled tiger prawns, yellowfin tuna ceviche, tender slow cooked beef, locally sourced burgers, fresh healthy salads- all made with local ingredients and a clear sense of care. It’s comfort food that happens to be fresh, wholesome, and surprisingly refined.

Emily Reynolds, the owner, first came to Arugam Bay in 2014. “I instantly fell in love with Arugam Bay – especially the people, the proximity to nature, and the ocean.”

She returned for good during the pandemic.

“That’s when I truly discovered my passion for cooking. I was inspired by the abundance of fresh produce and the traditional cooking methods shared by the local community.”

Reynolds left behind city life to build something slower – and better. The restaurant reflects that: a small, intentional space with a close-knit team and a menu that celebrates Sri Lankan produce.

“Leaving behind a fast-paced city life, I set out to build something rooted in creativity, connection, and care.”

Her team – all local – brings the space to life each night from 5pm, serving guests like they’re old friends. “Their passion and warmth are the heart of what we do.”

With plans to grow in Sri Lanka, Reynolds is quietly scouting new venues. But the vision remains unchanged: “Vibrant food, a laid-back atmosphere, and true Sri Lankan hospitality.”

In a surf town known for its sunsets and spontaneity, Emily’s offers a rare combination: food with soul, and a space that feels like home.
