Pineapple Press

On first impression, you arrive at Catch thinking this might break the bank. The interiors are polished and high-end, the service impeccable, the kind of place where napkins are folded with intent and glasses never sit empty for long. But a closer look at the menu delivers a pleasant surprise. The pricing feels considered. Accessible. It offers insight into what the team behind Radisson Collection Resort Galle are trying to achieve, escapism that isn’t unattainable. And we’re into it.

Inspired by Mediterranean seaside restaurants, Catch centres its identity firmly on the sea. At the heart of the menu is a clear commitment to seafood. Dishes are structured, thoughtful and confident. The Seafood Tower has become a signature for celebrations, while the grilled lobster distills the kitchen’s Mediterranean influence: clean flavours, careful cooking and a focus on quality over ornamentation.

But on this occasion, we opted for a more casual mid-week lunch. Things kicked off with fresh house-made bread and curry hummus, a subtle nod to Sri Lanka, while offering a tantalising glimpse into the skill behind the kitchen.

Next came a beetroot and feta salad I could happily commit to for entrée, main and dessert. Zingy. Fresh. Perfectly balanced. It’s the kind of dish that feels simple on paper but requires restraint and confidence to execute well.

The lightly seared tuna followed; high-grade, fresh and treated with respect, served with crisp vegetables on a bed of creamy mashed potato. Clean flavours again take centre stage. Nothing overwrought. Nothing unnecessary.

Dessert was spectacular; a honey and ginger cheesecake. I’m not usually one for cheesecake, but Catch’s version was light and refined, set on a delicate, crisp base that gave just the right amount of crunch.

Catch is a master of precision, but don’t let that fool you. It’s relaxed enough for a mid-week lunch, yet polished enough to mark a celebration. A restaurant that understands the occasion, without insisting on one.
